The "Iron Mike" artesian well was drilled in 1888 to provide water to the town. The public was able to get water from "Iron Mike" until November 2007 at which time it was determined that water did not meet Colorado drinking water requirements, now the constant flow from the well is diverted to the sanitary sewage system. There has been discussion to use the water to geothermally heat and cool the city hall with its water but that is years in the future.
