Flagstaff is located on a major railroad transportation corridor. The mainline which goes though the center of the city carries more than 50 trains a day, with most being over one mile long. Amtrak also sevices Flagstaff on this same corridor.

The Lowell Observatory, which has made numerous significant discoveries in astronomy, occupies two sites in or near Flagstaff, and the city still contains many properties of historical interest.
