This lock is located almost 200 miles from the mouth of the Mighty Columbia. The Dalles Lock And Dam is one of several locations where locks can be found on the river and is overseen by the
Portland District of The Army Corp of Engineers.
Navigation Lock Chamber Length 650 ft or 198.1 m
Navigation Lock Chamber Width 86 ft or 26.2 m
Navigation Lock Maximum Lift 90 ft or 27.1 m
Many recreational opportunities can be found along the banks of Lake Celilo, a lake just behind the 1.5 mile wide dam. Lake Celilo's banks stretch for another 20 plus miles upriver.
The lock itself is on the Washington side of the border. Interestingly enough most of the dam is in Washinton as well because the state border follows the "old" river course which is mostly south of the complex.
