“The Ideal Scout” Statue – Sioux Falls, SD - Scouts Monuments and Memorials on Waymarking.com

Dr. McKenzie, friend of the founder of Boy Scouts Lord Baden-Powell, created the first of these sculptures as symbol of the best qualities of Boy Scouts. The scout holds his hat in one hand, symbolic of reverence and obedience; the ax in his other hand holds to the ideal of truthfulness. Since 1914, more than 30 more have been cast and placed in prominent places around the world. Each individually reproduced statue is 6’ tall and weighs about 500 pounds. This particular statue was cast in 1937 and purchased in 2006 when the Sioux Council Center for Scouting moved into their new quarters on N. West Avenue.

The statue is mounted on a boulder of Sioux quartzite. There is no plaque, but information was obtained from (visit link)
