Dakota Airlines was established here on Dec. 27, 1927. Nellie Willhite, who was SD's first aviatrix, received flight instructions and soloed at this field. While test flying a new kari-keen monoplane, Harold Tennant and a friend died tragically in a crash nearby on Sept. 8, 1928.
Dakota Airlines was dissolved in Feb. 1931 when Renner Air Service was established. Air shows and airplane races were scheduled periodically at this field. Flight operations were discontinued in Jan. 1938.
