In Boston, a block from the TD Garden, the current sports arena for the Boston Bruins hockey and Boston Celtics basketball teams, is a mural of the former Boston Garden that stood on the same spot.

The original Boston Garden, on Causeway Street, was opened on November, 17, 1928. It was designed by boxer promoter Tex Richard, who also designed New York's Madison Square Garden (the third one on that location). The first sports game was played by the Boston Bruins as they defeated the Montreal Canadians 1-0 on Nov. 20, 1928. The last regular season-playoff game played was when the Boston Bruins lost to the New Jersey Devils in a playoff game, 3-2 on May 14, 1995. The building was demolished in 1997. The exact spot where the 'Old' Garden stood is now a parking lot.

There are way too many memorable events that happened at the 'Garden.' The Boston Bruins and the Celtics have one championship games at this location, and banners were hung in the rafters, as well as the player numbers that were retired. A local college hockey tournament, "The Beanpot", was played there for many years. The American Hockey League team, the New England Whalers, played there for a couple years, as well. Boxing matches were also held at the Garden, and, of course, other venues including the circus were held there.

Of course, it wasn't the perfect arena. It was particularly memorable for having seats with no view of the playing area, and no air conditioning, causing fog to form over the ice during playoffs, and basketball players to wilt under the 90+ degree heat. The arena was also small for professional sports, and, eventually, its time had come.

This mural is visible on the south facing side of a building that currently is the North Star Club. It covers the whole wall and the colors are in warm, brownish hues. In the upper right side is 'DJ's' which was a previous club in the building. In the far right is the artist's signature, "Grundig, '05."
