The Monument Pub is located at 18 Fish Street Hill, City of London. It sits directly in the shadow of The Monument designed by Sir Christopher Wren. The Column was built between 1671 - 1677 to both commemorate the Great Fire of London and celebrate the re-building of the city. It is 61 meters high incorporating 311 steps. At the summit a viewing platform allows climbers fantastic views of the London skyline.
Sixty-one metres represents the exact distance between The Monument and the Bakers House in neighbouring Pudding Lane. This is where the Great Fire began on Sunday 2nd September 1666. The fire destroyed much of the city. Finally being extinguished on Wednesday 5th September 1666.
