Court Square is the government, cultural and historic heart of Springfield, MA. To the south is the ornate Byers block, the Hampden County Courthouse, and the Hampden County Hall of Justice. To west is the Old First Church. Both the Hampden County Courthouse and the Old First Church are listed in the National Register of Historic Places. To the north are the three signature buildings of the municipal group - City Hall, the Campanile, and Symphony Hall. The district is bounded by Main St. on the east. In between is a landscaped park that contains many statues, monuments, memorials, fountains and a bandstand.
