Vroeger lagen er in de binnenstad en daarbuiten tal van bioscopen. De eerste openbare cinemavoorstelling had plaats op 5 september 1896 in De Gouden Arend, in de Vlamingstraat 46, tegenover de Stadsschouwburg. Men sprak toen van Beweegende Photografieën en ze werden gebracht door Le Cinématographe Parisien. Het waren beelden uit Parijs met mensen, koetsen en treinen. De ingang was 50 centiem.
In 1919 opende het Zwarte huis zijn deuren als één van de oudste cinema in Brugge. In de jaren 1950 telden we in en rond Bruggen bijna 17 cinema's. De meeste verdwenen met de opkost van de TV.
Formerly there were in the city and beyond many cinemas. The first public cinema show was held on September 5, 1896 at the Golden Eagle, in 1946 Fleming Street, opposite the City Theatre. They spoke of moving Photografieën and they were put through Cinématographe Le Parisien. They were pictures from Paris with people, coaches and trains. The entrance was 50 centimes.
In 1919 the "Zwarte huis theater" ( Black hous theather ) opend his doors as one of the first en now oldest theaters in town.
In 1950 bruges counted nearly 17 theaters. They disappeared when television was interduced in our homes.
In 1990 only 3 where still open.
Now the theater name is changed to Liberty.
