The sign on this lamppost shows that the light was built and erected in 1887 to commemorate the jubilee of Queen Victoria. When originally installed the lamp would have used gas or oil and would have to be lit manually on a daily basis. The lamp is now electric.
The sign on the plate reads "Erected by public subscription to commemorate the jubilee of the reign of her majesty Queen Victoria 1887"
There is some fine decoration on this lamppost
