The 18th Ohio Infantry Regiment Monument is located on Snodgrass Hill at the Chickamauga National Battlefield. This monument was placed in honor of the 18th Ohio Infantry for their service in the Battle of Chickamauga on Sept 19/20, 1863.

This monument to the 18th Ohio Infantry Regiment and is in recognition of their service during the Battle of Chickamauga, fought September 19–20, 1863.



Description: A flared granite marker with a bronze relief plaque on the front depicting a Civil War battle scene. Soldiers with rifles, bayonets fixed, are in the lower foreground, their backs to the viewer, against a wooded background. An officer is seen in the middle ground on horseback, his sword raise as he leads his men forward. On the back of the marker is a medallion of the Ohio State seal. The marker has a cap with scrolling on each corner, and is mounted upon a rectangular, two-block, rock-faced base.

Stanley’s Brigade, Negley’s Division Thomas’ Corps.

Text on the rear of the monument:

This regiment, Lieutenant Colonel Charles H. Grosvenor commanding moved to the support of General. Beatty at Glass’ Mill September 19, 1863, at 9:00 A.M. marched to this field at 2:00 P.M. engaged the enemy west of Brotherton’s House at 5:30 P.M. and bivouacked for the night.

September 20, at 9:30 A.M. Met the enemy at the north end of Kelly's Field. Assisted in the repulse of a brigade in and the capture of General Adams; advanced to the McDonald’s Field; arrived upon this ridge at 1:00 A M. supported Lieutenant Smith’s 4th United States Battery; participated at 5:00 P.M. in the repulse of General Gracie and in retaking the breast works; occupied this position till the Army retired at night.
