The Ute Indian Tribe reservation is located in an area known as the "Uinta Basin," and covers a large portion of the western Uintah and eastern Duchesne Counties. Tribal headquarters are in Fort Duchesne which is about 150 miles directly east of Salt Lake City. The Uintah and Ouray Ute Reservation located in northeastern Utah includes over five counties: Duchesne, Carbon, Grand, Uintah, and Wasatch. They have a tribal membership of 3,157 and over half of its membership lives on the Reservation. There is approximately approximately 1.3 million acres of trust land. They operate their own tribal goverment, several businesses. Cattle raising and mining of oil and natural gas is big business on the reservation. Water Systems manager provides water and sewer needs for several communities.
