This Classical style rock house was probably built of local materials in 1874 by Charles Eldon Duncan and his son, John Samuel. Charles, born in 1823, and Margaret Bowman, born in 1822, were married in 1844. They emigrated ferom Scotland in 1853 and soon settled in Centerville. Charles worked for many years with his sons cutting stone for the LDS Temple in Salt Lake City and often used discarded remnants as cornerstones of quoins on the houses that they built throughout Centerville and Farmington.
The surrounding property was originally completely owned by the Duncans. It is believed that John and his wife, Jennie, and their family resided in this house, with Charles, Margaret, and one of their four sons, Archibald, lived in a house to the northwest, and Charles Jr. lived across the street and to the north of this house. The property remained with the Duncan family until c.1930.
