In April 1871 settlers from Split Rock Township petitioned the Minnehaha County Commissioners asking that a road be created and extended to the west to a place called Iverson's crossing.

The road, from the early 1870's served at the main artery for mail, freight and passengers from Minnesota and Iowa to Sioux Falls. This road was named after an early settler name Ole B. Iverson.
The first bridge on this road was constructed in 1889.
