This sign welcomes you to the Vila da Batalha, a comunity of the Leiria's District. It shows Batalha's ex-libris: the Monastery, founded in the XIVth Century by King John I. Since then this place has developed. The comunity took its name after the Monastery and in the year 1500 King D. Manuel I, elevated the village to Vila, becoming then a County or Municipality.
It is hand painted and uses tiles to depict the Monastery. It has also the representation of "Freguesia" da Batalha heraldry.
"Freguesia" is a small division of the County comunity.
