Originally Baroque, lately rebuilt in Empire and Neo-Romanesque style, it is one of important active Roman Catholic churches in Brno centre - Church of St. Mary Magdalene (Kostel Sv. Márí Magdalény).
The originlally Baroque church, probably designed by Ondrej Erna, was built for Franciscan order during years 1651–1654 at the site of older, delapidated church. The bell tower was added in 1746 and church itself was redesigned several times, namely in 19th century, when the tower was rebuilt in Neo-Romanesque style and church's main facade was simplified in Empire style. St. Mary Magdalene is a simple, single nave structure (length 36 m and width 25 m). The main altar is an impressive example of the Baroque art from 1736, designed by sculptor Adam Nesmann and realized by carpenter František Huk. The painting of St. Mary Magdalene at the main altar, a copy of Rubens's original masterpiece, is work of painter Josef Rotter. The sculptural decorations of the side altars are work of sculptor and carver Ondrej Schweigel (1759-1760). The only exception is the altar of St. Anthony of Padua, work of J. Scherzo. Nice pulpit came from the workshop of carver Antonin Riga.
