Basil was a Rev. War Vet. #W753 (Nat.Archives film Serv. Micro Copy #804 Film Roll #1332 Enlisted near Martinsburg in Berkeley Co.,Va. about 1 Sept. 1777 or 1778, in the US Militia Under General Hand, Captain Baldwin and David Price. Marched to Oldtown, Md. and from there to Uniontown, Pa. and on to Pittsburg and from Pittsburg to Wheeling in Va. on the Ohio river. One soldier in the campaign was killed by the Indians. Then from Wheeling up river 12 miles to Beech Bottom Fort, where they remained. He remained there until discharged and then returned home to near Martinsburg in Berkeley Co. in March. This tour was with his brothers Isaiah and Ezekiel. Basil volunteered again in the fall of 1778 or 1779 for another tour of 3 months and was marched to Fort McIntosh, due to inclement weather and was discharged in January after entering. Applied for pension at Erie, Pa., 7 August 1832.
