Crescent City is a rural town located between two lakes, Crescent Lake to the east and Lake Stella to the west. The town is located on US Highway 17 about 23 miles south of Palatka and 28 miles north of Deland.
The following information about the town is from the Sprague House website:
"Crescent City became known as the "Bass Capital of the World" for its commercial and pleasure fishing. There are many bass tournaments held on and within the tributary of Crescent Lake.
At one time, much commercial fishing took place here with Crescent City becoming known as the "Bass Capital of the World" It was named such by the Putnam County Courier after Al McClaine, fishing editor of Field and Stream magazine selected Crescent City's waters as being the best for largemouth bass."
