At one time this would have been a prominent sundial but the masonry is weathered, stained, and flaked. Most of the markings have been effaced. No hour lines are visible but the word Sol is evident in the upper right. Part of the meridian line is still visible. The gnomon is in place but bent down below the support. The end of the gnomon is a disc with a hole in the center to clearly show noon on the meridian. The wall of the old building faces south declining a bit to the west.
The dial is visible on the wall behind the statue of General Gaffroi that dominates the square. It is located above Place Paoli (WM72Q6), up the ancient stairs (WM7DQ6) and below the citadel on the standard tourist walk through the “haut village”. The Church of the Annunciation (WM72E2)is across the square. Corte is the main town in the central mountainous region of Corsica.
Sundial Type: Vertical - Wall mounted dial plate
