Now owned by Washington College, the Custom House is open for tours between 11AM to 4PM. Per the historical inventory (secondary link below), the building was constructed in two phases with the first around 1694, thus an early structure in the port city of Chestertown. The lower level has three large warehouse rooms, while the upper story had the living quarters. Colonial authorities rented a room for customs business, thus giving the builing its ongoing name.
