William IV (1765 – 1837) was King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland and of Hanover as well from 1830 until his death.
For a King, William was a bit of a lad! He had no legitimate children but did have 10 illegitimate ones with Dorothea Jordan, an actress, with whom he lived for 20 years.
Although not active in politics, it was during his reign that there were important social improvements such as the abolition of slavery in (most of) the British Empire, changes in child labour laws, changes to the poor law and electoral reform.
