This grade I listed church dates from c.1160 but stands on the site of a Saxon church. It is of standard layout, nave with two side aisles, chancel with two side chapels, and tower at the west end.
The font dates from C15 and is octagonal on a single octagonal step with rear extension. The font is decorated with delicate carving which has suffered the wear of years, each side represents a window of 2-lights with 5-centred arch with quatrefoil light over, shown in a gable with tracery, typical of the period. The font cover is by George Gilbert Scott - 1850s - with castellated rim and an open 'spire', painted in blue, red, and gold, much as the font would have been decorated when new.
The font has been placed just forward of the ringing chamber archway which is in the base of the tower.
