The district is mostly made up of buildings on Elk Grove Blvd. The district is made up of 48 buildings.

Elk Grove started in 1850 as a stage coach stop, and grow because of its proximity to the Gold Rush.

The historic district is made up of building that date to the late 1800s. Some of the buildings are the IOOF lodge, the old bank and the former general store.
