South Temple Historic District - Barbara Worth Apartments
Graham and Leone Doxey and Howard and Leone Layton constructed the Barbara Worth Apartmentas in 1931. Graham's parents, Tom and Pearl Doxey, also invested in and eventually moved into and managed the buidling until 1940. Other relatives then managed the building. The apartments remained in the Doxey and Layton families for over 50 years. The name "Barbara Worth" comes from the title of a Harold Bell Wright novel written in 1911. It was also the name of a silent movie actress.
This building was constructed in the Tudor Revicval Style, a syle commonly used for residences and apartments of the era. Three-, Four-, and Five-rooms were available originally, with a price range $35.00 to $67.50 per month.
