Designed by architect William H King, the Mt Lebanon municipal building was inaugurated in 1930. King, a graduate from Carnegie Tech and then the Paris Ecole des Beux Arts, created an art deco design to reflect the new style of the age.
The bas relief in above the main door. It depicts a seated elder man on a throne, much alike a Zeus figure, blanked by two standing eagles. On the left and right edge, are the profiles of two walking figures, a man and a woman, facing inwards towards the center human figure. The text "Wisdom in Government" is chiseled in stone on the bottom.
