Sigma Nu was founded on January 1, 1869 at the Virginia Military Institute in Lexington, Virginia by three cadets. The organization proceeded from the membership of the V.M.T.'s Legion of Honor and were dedicated to the eradication of hazing. Honor is the cardinal principle of Sigma Nu and has been jealously guarded since their founding. Their badge is in the shape of the French medal, legion d'honour. It is decorated with a serpent, crossed swords, and gold letters. Their colors are black, white and gold, their flower is the white rose. Their national magazine, The Delta, is published at their headquarters in Lexington, Virginia. The Sigma Nu chapter at the University of Utah was founded in 1924 and is located at 95 South Wolcott Street.
