King D. Dinis gave a sum of money for the erection of this building in 1313. In the 15th century the curtain, the battlements and the pyramidal tower endings were raised and rendered. Five cylindrical towers stand out for their essentially Gothic military architecture, evoking the drawing of French castles. It has an octagonal plant (National Monument).
