George H. Champ House
Constructed in 1903, this dwelling is a good example of the
foursquare box type house. Some of the character defining features
of the property include the home's large portico that wraps around
to the west façade, hip roof featuring large gable dormers, upper sto-
ries clad in wood shingles, and the intact carriage house. It was
originally built for George H. Champ, a local financier. Champ had
come to Logan from the Midwest in 1892 and established the Utah
Mortgage Loan Corporation soon after his arrival. He expanded his
financial enterprise in 1903, the same year this home was built, with
the formation of the Cache Valley Banking Company. Both bank-
ing institutions were long-term successes in Cache Valley. The
house retains its architectural integrity and is a significant feature of
the Logan Center Street Historic District.
