A time capsule buried under the brass plaque of the 6th Marine Division's memorial is scheduled to be open on the 100th anniversary of the 6th's landing on Okinawa.

Under the 'Sword and Six' plaque embedded in the concrete at the head of the memorial, a time capsule was placed by the 6th Marine Division to be opened on April 1, 2045.

The 6th Marines distinguished themselves at the Battle of Okinawa in WW II and earned the Presidential Unit Citation for their actions. April 1, 2045 is the 100th anniversary of the Sixth's landing on Okinawa.
