«The monument has the names of diverse battles where the Portuguese blood was spilled, from the foundation of the nationality until the battle La Lys in the I World-wide War (1914-1918). For having been inaugurated in 1924 the monument does not include a reference to the Colonial War (1961-1974), conflict in which were involved the current generation of old combatants. A gap that will have to be filled soon with a plate next to the monument.
n 15th December 2007 the commemorations of the 84th Anniversary of the Nucleus of “Liga dos Combatentes” of the city occurred in Castelo Branco. This day took place the transference of the monument dedicated to the Combatants, from the cemetery to the “Quinta Nova”. Eighty three years after being placed in the cemetery of the city, (9 April 1924), this monument meets now in a public place very close to downtown.»
