Sett-makers banker is a crude work bench used for the dressing of granite stone which took place on site to save unnecessary labour and the cost of transportation of the heavy stone. The masons were preparing the stone for pavings for towns around Dartmoor. There are many of these “work benches” on the south-eastern side of Staple Tors.
