A plaque at the site reads:
Jacksonville Fire Museum
September 2010
In Memory of Firefighters Who Have
Answered Their Last Alarm
Linda Treadwell, Firefighter/Paramedic and Curator of this Museum from
October 2005 to October 2010 had a vision of a memorial wall to be built at this
Museum to honor all of those that made the supreme sacrifice in the
performance of their duties.
In March of 2010 Linda designed and commissioned a "challenge" coin to be
given to all widows/widowers of firefighters. This coin has inscribed on it "MY
HERO WORE A FIRE HELMET." The coin has a helmet with the number 3 on
it to signify this Museum, which was Fire Station 3. Linda is a believer that "We
must always remember the past that brought us to the present, which will
enable us to plan for the future." This coin will be given to ALL firefighter's
widows/widowers in honor of their husbands. It is her hope that this tradition
will live on.
