This typical Victorian style station was built for the Newfoundland Railway in 1903. Regular railway service ceased 30 September 1988 and the narrow-gauged tracks were soon removed.

 If the station/depot is not being used for railroad purposes, what is it currently used for?: According to the Railway Coastal Museum web site, the museum "occupies the entire ground floor, and including the passenger platform. The two upper floors house the St. John’s City Archives and Records, and the social rooms of the CN Pensioners."
