This war memorial stands on the east side of Fairlawn Cemetery. The obelisk column is ten feet high, and it stands on a double base, making the unit a full twenty feet high. At the top of the obelisk is a ball approximately fifteen inches in diameter, and atop that, a bronze eagle with its wings spread.
The memorial honors all those who have defended our country from its beginning, to the present (which was 1918), and into the future. Two cannon are mounted on stone cubes to the south of the obelisk.
A bronze plaque is affixed to each of the four sides of the base, reading:
"Erected A.D. 1918
In commemoration of all soldiers and sailors who served in the defense of the flag from the birth of the nation and to those who in the future render a like service. A loving tribute from comrades and Ladies of the Grand Army of the Republic - Woman's Relief Corps - Sons and Daughters of the American Revolution - United Spanish War Veterans - Patriotic Citizens - Pupils of the Public Schools of Oklahoma City and State and Elsewhere - whose names with other data repose within this monument."
