From a plaque at the site: "In 1893, seven pioneers who had just arrived in the new township of Morgan Hill built the Methodist Episcopal Church sanctuary on this land, which was donated by the Philippes Land Company. The church constructed with lumber hauled by wagon from San Jose, was Morgen Hill's first place of worship and its first schoolhouse. In 1894, the adjoining personage was constructed. Both buildings are examples of the American Gothic form of architecture popular at the time. The embossed tin plate interior of the sanctuary is also representative of the era.
In 1930, the church was moved thirty feet west to its current location to allow of widening for the street. The social hall and kitchen were also added at that time. In 1988 the sanctuary and parsonage were restored as the first project of the city of Morgan Hill's Historic Preservation Society."
