This plaque recognizes the founding of Thedford when, in 1859, the Grand Trunk Railway finished the rail line from St Mary’s to Point Edward and established a station stop near here.

The station was built on property owned by Nelson Southworth who wanted it to be called Thetford after his native town in Vermont. However it went by the name Widder Station, another local community, until 1876. Then, because of the village clerk’s poor handwriting the name officially given to the station as well as the place was Thedford, when incorporated as a village in 1877.
The rail line is no more and what was the station is now part of the clubhouse of Widder Station golf course.
