NX0078 - USCGS Y65, Oregon - U.S. Benchmarks on Waymarking.com

This benchmark is located along the Fields-Denio Road along the east base of the Steens Mtns, about 5 miles east of the site of Andrews, Oregon. The cap is located about 60 feet east of the road centerline, The cap was cemented into a rock outcrop by the U.S. Coast & Geodetic Survey in 1931 and was marked Y65.

RECOVERY NOTE BY NATIONAL GEODETIC SURVEY 1984 RECOVERED IN GOOD CONDITION. NEW DESCRIPTION FOLLOWS. 31.26 KM (19.43 MI) NORTH ALONG THE WINNEMUCCA CRANE ROAD FROM THE POST OFFICE AT FIELDS, IN TOP OF AND 1.2 METERS (4 FT) WEST OF THE EAST EDGE OF A 4 BY 8 FOOT PORTION OF BROWN VOLCANIC OUTCROP PROJECTING 2 FEET FROM THE EAST SLOPE OF A STEEP HILL AT THE NORTH END OF A TURNOUT, 18.6 METERS (61 FT) EAST OF THE CENTER OF THE ROAD AND 0.5 METER (1.5 FT) SOUTH OF THE NORTH EDGE OF THE OUTCROP. THE MARK IS 4.6 METERS E FROM A WITNESS POST. THE MARK IS 1.0 M BELOW THE ROAD.
