Captain John Agar Love, master of the whaling and trading brig Tohora. John (Jacky) Love married Chieftainess Mere Ruru Te Hukinua, and had two sons and one daughter.

The plaque reads:-
TO THE MEMORY OF JOHN AGAR LOVE (HAKIRAU)
WHO ARRIVED IN NEW ZEALAND IN THE EARLY 1820'S RON THE ISLE OF SKYE, SCOTLAND. HE BECAM ONE OF THE EARLY WHALERS AND TRADERS OF THE AREA.
HE DIED AND WAS BURIED AT TE AWAITI OTOBER 1839
THIS PLAQUE WAS UNVEILED ON THE 28TH DECEMBER 1987
