"The UNIVERSITY OF OKLAHOMA MEDICAL SCHOOL, 801 E. 13th St., a five-story buff brick building, is used exclusively for classrooms, while most of the clinical laboratories are in the University Hospital on the opposite side of 13th St. The legislative act creating the Medical School made the Hospital and the Crippled Children's Hospital, to the east, both state institutions, a part of the school." [A Guide to the Sooner State, 1941]
This large buff brick and stone building, designed by the well respected Layton, Hicks and Forsyth firm of architects, was constructed in 1927 by builders, Reinhard & Donovan. This is a four-story plus exposed basement building. The main entrance is on the south, with a secondary entrance on the west.
The building has a stone beltcourse above the first floor windows, and another above the fourth floor windows. A decorative cornice runs around the east, south and west walls, with stone coping. The walls are divided by stone pilasters rising from above the first floor windows to the cornice, with pairs of windows between. The exception to this is at each end of the south elevation, where the pilasters divide windows into single-triple-single groupings.
The main south entrance has double glass doors with wide sidelights and tall transoms. The entry is slightly recessed by a projected stone surround decorated with frieze art. Above the opening is written "COLLEGE OF HEALTH." Above that is a balustrade. Four sets of stairs lead up to the entrance from the curb.
The building is currently known as the Oklahoma University Health Sciences Center, College of Health. It houses many health-related departments.
