The Knauss family played a central role in the history of Emmaus, PA. Along with Jacob Ehrenhardt, Sebastian Knauss donated a large tract of land for the original "congregational village."

The Knauss Homestead was constructed of logs (though there is vinyl siding now - oh well) and was build by Sebastian's eldest son Heinrich in 1777. It is of the Colonial Era and was made of hand tooled materials. The central fireplace and hall which connects the front and rear door marks its' Germanic origins..

Today the home serves as a reminder of 158 years (apparently the Knausses moved out in 1935) and seven generations of Knauss family occupancy. Though owned by the Borough of Emmaus, the house and its restoration are in the care of the Knauss Homestead Preservation Society. It is a house museum and open to the public by appointment.

There also is an interesting Remembrance Garden (coord provided below) and some small bridges over a nearby creek. The public grounds can be accessed from the Cintas parking lot off of Emmaus Avenue.
