Emmaus Lodge No. 792 - F. & A. M. was constituded on April 8, 1961 at The East Penn Union School District Gymnasium, Emmaus, Pa. by Brother Max F. Balcom, Right Worshipful Grand Master, assisted by his Grand Lodge Officers. In attendance were 157 Master Masons who became the Warrant Members.
The first Stated Meeting of the Lodge was held on April 17, 1961 and was conducted by our first Worshipful Master, Brother Paul C. E. Brauch. Through June of 1967, Lodge Meetings were held at the St. John's U.C.C. Church, Fourth and North Streets, Emmaus. In September of 1967, the lodge moved to the newly renovated Emmaus Masonic Temple located at Second and Ridge Streets, Emmaus.
During the years from 1961 through 1966, the Members of Emmaus Lodge felt the need for a permanent home. The place of meeting during that time was a temporary nature. The possible availability of such a home was brought to the attention of Emmaus Temple Association when it was learned that the Zion E.U.B. Church expected to merge with several other congregations and move to a new location. This building was previously inspected by Brother Earl F. Herrold, Past Grand Master and Chairman of the Grand Lodge Committee on masonic Temples, Halls and Lodge Rooms. It was his opinion that it would serve as a suitable building and site for a Masonic Temple.
Other possibilities were explored and after much soul searching and deliberation, it was decided that an existing building located in the Bourough of Emmaus would fill our needs most adequately. In May of 1966, the Zion E.U.B. building was offered for sale. After several months of negotiations, an agreement to purchase the property was executed between the Zion E.U.B. Church officials and our Emmaus Temple Association.
Our Temple Association called for a meeting of the Members of the Lodge on December 20, 1966, for the purpose of discussing and considering the purchase of the Zion E.U.B. Church property. With 97 members present, a resolution authorizing the purchase of the church property was unanimously adopted. On February 9, 1967, the directors of the Masonic Temple Association signed the deed and acquired the church building, parsonage and land at Second and Ridge Streets, Emmaus, Pennsylvania.
Renovation was begun in June of 1967 on the Lodge Room and building. The renovation was completed in September and Emmaus Lodge held its first Stated Meeting in its newly acquired Masonic Temple on September 19, 1967.
