Townsend School is located on the southwest corner of Smokey Valley Rd and State Road "49", about three miles north of Waupaca, WI. The school house itself is the front section of the Wesley Heating and Air-conditioning business; a large addition has been built onto the back of the original school building. And the bell is still in the belfry.

On July 6, 1906 voters decided that students from out side the district would pay $5 tuition per term. On August 11, 1944 it was agreed that Townsend School would take in the children from the Oakland School for $25 per month for all the children. The Oakland School children attended Townsend School for the next three years until the Oakland School reopened in 1947. The Townsend School closed at the end of the 1955-1956 school term.
