Pilgrim Inn
The remains of "Pilgrim Inn" at Blaxland NSW. This inn was built in 1826 by Barnett Levey, a free immigrant Jew who received one of the first land grants (900 acres) in 1825. It stood at the junction of Cox's Road, Mitchell Pass Road and Old Bathurst Road and operated as an Inn until 1852, the last licence was held by John Outrim Wascoe, who bought the Inn in 1857. The Inn was subsequently sold to William Deane, a Sydney Soliciter. The Inn remained in that family and was occupied by his grandson when it was destroyed by Fire in 1968.
The town of Blaxland was originally named Wascoe after the owner of the Pilgrim Inn but was renamed Blaxland in 1814, in honour of Gregory Blaxland.
