Other than the fact that the house was designed by Lilian J. Rice and built in 1937, almost no other information is available about this residence and its owners.
Master Architect Lilian Rice is best noted for her work in designing and overseeing much of the work in the planned community of Rancho Santa Fe during the 1920's and 1930's. But she also designed homes and other structures throughout San Diego County. Two such residences are located side-by-side at the end of Ludington Lane in the Village of La Jolla. Here she departed from the Spanish-influenced style of her buildings in Rancho Santa Fe, instead employing a Colonial-Revival style of architecture for the house next door and a Moderne Movement style for the Kinsey house. These designs were some of the last of the renowned architect prior to her untimely death in 1938.
