This statue of Lazaro Cardenas is located in a small park near Puerto Vallarta's malecon (seaside walk) and Venustiano Carranza. The sculptors are Samuel Nunes and Raul Garcia. The date of the piece is unknown.
Cardenas served as President from December 1, 1934 to November 30, 1940. He later served as the Secretary of Defense. He is credited with devoloping the political structure in Mexico that lasted until the late 1980s. He is also recognized as the only President of the PRI Party who didn't use the office to become rich. His son, Cuauhtémoc Cárdenas, created a new Party, the PRD and unsuccessfully ran for President in 1988.
