Painted barn quilts are starting to appear on the countryside in Sioux County, IA in the far northwest corner of the state. The bright red pinwheel and surrounding yellow geese prints give a nice accent to this well kept red metal barn. It sits off the road at the end of a long drive on the east side of the road right near the junction of Highways 18 and 75. While barn quilts are relatively new in this part of the state, it appears that it is becoming a popular art form, and we look forward to spotting many more in our area in the near future.
Your Visit: I pass by here at least once a week and never noticed the barn quilts on this road until the other day. When I drove in to get a closer photo, the owner came in behind me so I had a chance to ask him about his artwork. He enthusiastically shared his interest in barn quilts and how he happened to have one on his farm.
Type of Barn: Barn still in use
