The arena opened in January 1996 with a concert by Brian Adams, and was known as "The Palladium" briefly before changing to "The Corel Center" in February 1996 until February 2006. Up until 2013 it has been known as "Scotiabank Place". It is currently named the Canadian Tire Centre. It was built to house the Ottawa Senators rink as the main venue, but also has held many other venues. From simple shows to large concerts, it has it all. For hockey there is seating for 19,153 (20,500 with standing room). The seating numbers and arrangement changes with each venue.
Having attended many hockey games here and seated in many different parts of the stadium from the glass right back to the last row, there doesn't seem to be any bad seats. We have seen comedy shows, basketball games, and even monster trucks here over the years and always enjoy going here.
The main reason for the stadium is for the Ottawa Senators. They have been back in Ottawa since there first game on October 8, 1992. They started playing in the Ottawa Civic Center with a win over the Montreal Canadians. They had there first game in this arena on January 17, 1996, but this time lost to the Montreal Canadians.
Since that time many great events have taken place here, as are many more to come.
There are fitness facilities available on-site. As well as restaurants/bars that are open on game nights. The Ottawa Senators merchandise store is open in the main foyer during regular business hours and around game days. There is also the Ottawa Hall of Fame Exhibition in the 200/300 level concourse.
