"Washoe woman."
This statue represents and honors the Washoe tribe of Nevada and California. As the original inhabitants of Lake Tahoe, the Washoe people's life cycles were revolved around Lake Tahoe. For thousands of years the Washoe people have been the caretakers of the lands and are more than just hunters gatherers who utilized Lake Tahoe's abundancy of nuts, fish and game. They are part of the land with intimate knowledge of the region's resources.
"the woman represents the tribe and the baby represents the future".
Arnold Aragon, sculptor.
