This mural by artist Kelly William Poling of Chillicothe, Missouri catches the attention of travelers on US 65. Poling has done 15 or so other murals in this Dream Initiative announced by Missouri Governor Matt Blunt in 2007.
It is my favorite because it fits in so well with the nearby classic courthouse of Livingston County Missouri. I also like its two disappearing perspective lines that brings back the town's history in its boom days as a key railroad center for four railroads circa 1890.
Poling's work can also be seen in Las Vegas, Nevada MGM Casino properties and he has also had some of his works displayed at the Josyln Museum in Omaha, Nebraska.
The Chillicothe Baking Company near the old Wabash Railroad Station tried out the bread slicing machine of Iowa inventor Otto Rehredder on July 8, 1928. The idea was so popular that people still are fond of the saying: " The greatest thing since sliced bread." See nearby Waymark in the category "First of its Kind" for more details.
