In 1953 at the close of the Korean War, the 38th Parallel North was the final treaty line which divided Korea into North and South countries.
West Virginia House Concurrent Resolution 56 (link) was approved in March 2010 to provide for the "Erection of signs near Mahan and Oak Hill, in Fayette County, indicating the crossing of the 38th Parallel North in honor of the Veterans of the Korean War." Signs were placed so that they could be seen by both north and south bound traffic on US Highway 19.
Also noted that the Summerlee Road bridge over US19 to the north has been dedicated as the "Veterans of All Wars Bridge."
Measurement by Garmin 60CSx at the sign. Shoulder provides quick parking for a clear photo.
